Conversation With Jim Cheng, Virginia’s Secretary of Commerce and Trade

Yesterday afternoon, I met with Jim Cheng, Virginia’s outstanding Secretary of Commerce and Trade, to find out first hand how Virginia has earned its position as the No. 1 state to do business.  Before assuming his role in Richmond, Secretary Cheng was, like me, a technology entrepreneur — so he understands the unique needs of technology companies.

One of the initiatives he is particularly excited about is the Virginia Jobs Investment Program, which is run by the Department of Business Assistance.  Qualifying for this program has recently become even easier, and companies who are adding 5 or more employees with as little as $100k in capital expenditures can qualify for significant training assistance from the Commonwealth.

Governor McDonnell and Secretary Cheng are not just looking out for the Fortune 500 companies, they are looking out for the little guys too.
