State School Report Card Is “Most Decorated” Government Site in Virginia

School Quality Profiles Website Scoops Up Six Awards for Design Excellence

Summary: Virginia’s state school report card website, developed by AIS Network for the Virginia Department of Education, has won six awards for excellence in design, making it the most widely recognized government website in the commonwealth.

Richmond, Va. — February 21, 2018 — Virginia’s state school report card has become the commonwealth’s “most decorated” public website, according to web developer AIS Network. The site has garnered more awards and recognition to date than any other government website in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Virginia School Quality Profiles is an online data tool that communicates to millions of parents and the public about the status and achievements of Virginia’s more than 1,800 public schools. AISN developed the SQP for the Virginia Department of Education.

Since its debut in October 2016, the SQP has won five national awards and one regional award for excellence in website design. The site has received further national recognition from the Data Quality Campaign, the nation’s leading voice on education data policy and its use, as well as the Council of Chief State School Officers, a nationwide organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education.

“These awards and other recognitions of excellence make the SQP the most decorated government website in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are thrilled that VDOE has been recognized at this level,” said AISN CEO Jay Atkinson.

“The SQP site sets the ‘gold standard’ for state school report cards in terms of its exceptional usability, design and development. The site reflects of our commitment to providing a visually pleasing and technically masterful website for Virginia’s students and their parents, school management, policy makers, elected officials, citizen and other stakeholders.”

The SQP received the following awards for excellence in 2017:
• Best in Class in both the Government and Education categories from the Interactive Media Council’s Interactive Media Awards;
• Golden Achievement Award and an Award of Merit for publications and electronic media from the National School Public Relations Association;
• Innovation in Utilization Award in the Public Project category from the Richmond Technology Council; and
• Savvy Award from the City-County Communications Marketing Association.

The team behind the SQP leveraged a full suite of current technology products to update and re-engineer a signature initiative for school transparency and accountability. Users from parents to policy makers can now easily view and compare the performance of Virginia schools via a responsive, accessible website displaying dashboards of current data. The SQP replaced the agency’s 90’s-era School Performance Report Cards, which provided static PDFs and Excel spreadsheets.
